Our Weakness Reveals His Worth
He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.
Paul had asked for relief from a hardship, and instead he received an answer that reshaped how he understood strength itself. Christ's response was not the removal of weakness but the promise of sufficient grace within it. What Paul discovered is that God's power is not diminished by our frailty—it is displayed through it. Weakness becomes the very setting in which Christ's strength is seen most clearly, because there is no mistaking whose power is at work.
This changes how we might view our own limitations, struggles, and insufficiencies. Instead of weakness being something merely to endure or hide, it becomes an occasion where Christ's sufficiency is put on full display. When we are weak and he is strong, the glory cannot be confused for our own. His worth shines precisely where our resources run out.
Paul's response to this truth is striking: he chooses to boast in his weaknesses rather than resent them. This is not resignation but a settled gladness, because he has seen that his weakness is the very place where Christ's power comes to rest on him. The things we might be tempted to conceal or overcome on our own become, in God's hands, platforms for his strength to be magnified.
There is real comfort here for anyone who feels inadequate, worn down, or unable to meet the demands before them. The promise is not that weakness will disappear, but that grace will be sufficient for it—not barely enough, but fully sufficient. Christ's power is not hindered by our lack; it is made perfect through it.
