Standing Firm in His Strength

Paul's word "finally" signals a turning point—after describing family, work, and daily faithfulness, he pivots to the bigger battle underneath it all. Before he ever mentions armor or the schemes of the enemy, he starts with a simple instruction: be strong, not in your own resolve, but in the Lord and in the strength of his might. That order matters. Spiritual warfare doesn't begin with our effort; it begins with recognizing whose strength we're standing in.

It's easy to approach spiritual warfare with either fear or dismissiveness—either seeing a demon behind every struggle or brushing off the idea that there's any real conflict at all. Scripture invites a steadier posture: sober awareness that the fight is real, paired with confidence that the strength to face it doesn't originate with us. Truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, God's word, and prayer aren't tools we manufacture; they're ways we position ourselves inside a strength that's already been supplied.

This also reframes what it means to "try harder" spiritually. Strength in the Lord isn't about intensity or emotional highs—it's about staying rooted in Christ and letting his power work through ordinary faithfulness: reading Scripture, praying honestly, walking in repentance, and letting the fruit of the Spirit grow over time. Lasting change and steady endurance matter more than dramatic moments.

So whatever pressure or opposition you're facing today, the starting point is the same one Paul gives: lean into the strength that's already yours in Christ. You're not left to figure this out alone or to summon courage from nothing—you're invited to stand in a might that was never yours to begin with.
