Sent at the Right Time

Luke 1:26 (WEB)
Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

Six months after Elizabeth's own miraculous conception, God moves again. This time an angel is sent, not to a temple in Jerusalem, but to an obscure town in Galilee. Nazareth was not a place of prominence or religious significance; it was ordinary, easily overlooked. Yet it is precisely here that God chooses to act next in His unfolding plan.

There is something worth noticing in the timing and the sending. Nothing about this moment is random. Gabriel doesn't arrive on his own initiative; he is sent from God. The careful notation of the sixth month reminds us that God's plan is unfolding on His own timetable, connecting what happened with Elizabeth to what is about to happen with Mary. Heaven is orchestrating events on earth with precision and purpose.

It's also worth pausing on the location itself. God didn't send His messenger to a capital city or a center of religious power. He sent him to Nazareth, a town so unremarkable that it would later be asked, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" This is a pattern worth holding onto: God often works through what the world considers small or insignificant to bring about what is eternally significant.

Jeff Durbin explores this divine initiative in his teaching on the birth of Christ, reflecting on how God Himself set these events in motion as part of His sovereign plan for the incarnation.
