Decreasing So He Can Increase
He must increase, but I must decrease.
John the Baptist spoke these words at the height of his ministry, when crowds were following him and his influence was growing. Yet rather than clinging to that platform, he pointed away from himself and toward Jesus. His purpose was never to build his own name but to make room for Christ to be seen more clearly through his life.
That posture is a challenge for anyone who finds themselves with a public platform, a following, or a measure of success. It's easy to let attention become the point instead of the means. John's example reminds us that whatever influence we're given is meant to be stewarded, not hoarded—used to direct people's eyes upward rather than inward toward ourselves.

Racing at a high level comes with visibility, competition, and no shortage of reasons to focus purely on personal achievement. But how a believer navigates that spotlight—what they prioritize, how they treat others, what they point to when people are watching—says something about where their heart actually rests.
Decreasing doesn't mean disappearing or diminishing the gifts we've been given. It means holding them loosely, using our platforms as a way to reflect Christ rather than ourselves, whether that platform is a pulpit, a workplace, or a race track. Wherever we find influence, the question John's life raises is simple: are we increasing our own name, or making room for His?
