Greater Than What's Against You
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.
Fear has a way of making our problems feel like the entire story. When something big looms in front of us, it can convince us that there's nothing beyond it, no help coming, no way through. But fear is not a reliable narrator. It distorts perspective, magnifying the threat while shrinking our view of who is present with us in it.
That's exactly why this verse matters. It doesn't ask us to deny that the problem is real. It doesn't ask us to pretend everything is fine when it isn't. Instead, it gives us a truer measure to hold up against our fear: the One who lives in us is greater than anything we're facing in the world. The size of the threat doesn't change. What changes is our awareness of who stands with us inside it.
Steven Furtick teaches that this is the posture we're invited into, honesty about the difficulty paired with confidence in God's faithfulness. You can name the fear, acknowledge the uncertainty, and still declare that God is bigger than what's in front of you. Those two things aren't in conflict. In fact, holding them together is what real faith looks like when life doesn't feel fine.
So today, if you're facing something that feels too big, remember that you don't have to minimize it to trust God in it. You're not asked to fake peace, you're invited to find it in the truth that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. That truth doesn't erase the problem, but it does put it in its proper place.
